A good pair of shoes is the glue that holds an outfit together. This essential fashion accessory is has what we like to refer to as a ‘metamorphosis quality’.
Shoes have an uncanny way of transforming an outfit from lounge wear to out on the town. As usual, each year and season comes with its fashion favourites, which is usually either a trend or a specific brand style! Here’s a list of ours:
NUMBER ONE: GUCCI BLOCK HEELED MULES
With the appointment of Gucci’s new Creative director Alessandro Michele in January last year, it seems like every single Gucci accessory has become a hit and a statement, from the Dionysus shoulder bags to the Princetown Leather Slippers. The way these Mules are worn by fashionistas the world over, you wouldn’t guess they cost a couple hundred dollars/pounds! Mules are still very much in season and block heels are making a huge come back.
NUMBER TWO: GUCCI PRINCETOWN SLIPPERS
This took us a while to warm up to…or maybe it was the fur that warmed us up. The Princetown Leather Slippers are an unlikely pair to be a best seller…but it is all the same…and seems to be sold out everywhere too! The plus for these furry beauties are they are androgynous and look just as good on both men and women alike.
NUMBER THREE : PERSPEX BOOTS
Taking the game of peek-a-boo to another level, the perspex boots are what we would like to refer to as the glammed up and highly stylized version of rain boots…this trend trickled down from the runway to high street as just the perspex block heel, with the fabric for the boot itself having a pvc or a velvet finish. The High streets took it a bit further, making the entire shoes see-through…and we absolutely adore them!
NUMBER FOUR: THE ALTERNATIVE SLIP ON MULE
In our opinion, this is the reign lounge-wear hobo, different textures, variations and brands (NO21, Zara,Tzar Studios) have had their go at this trend…but they all still manage to keep their gypsy-esque and on occasion, elegant vibe.
NUMBER FOUR: FURRY SLIDES
Let it never be said, that celebrities do not have fashion authority. With the likes of Kylie Jenner that brought these into the lime light and then Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma, bringing about their variation….Furry slides are here to stay (atleast for the summer)
NUMBER FIVE: FENTY PUMA
Rihanna’s collab with Puma, was indeed a succesful one. With her line of limited edition sneakers and slides, Fenty Puma quickly became a household name in the sneaker world. We are still on the fence about the futuristic high-tops. But the low top sneakers have our hearts.
NUMBER SIX: STRAPPY/CAGED HEELS
These are the ultimate ‘sex on legs’. The are sexy and can make any feet look as gorgeous. Everyone has been rocking the Steve Madden Cages Sandals this season, same goes with strappy booties and stringy heeled sandals.
NUMBER SEVEN: BLOCK HEELED SHOES
Back in the day, they used to be called various names like ‘knock on wood’ and ‘boogie boogie’ as popularly called in the 70’s. Block heels have made a few appearances over the years, the question now is…is it here to stay? And for how long?
NUMBER EIGHT: NO21 MULES
We must hand it over to the mule trend…it has been around for longer than we thought it would. Since its re-emergence last summer, its been going steady and has evolved in more ways than one! The mules get artsier and artsier by the day…and the NO21 Mules are just the ultimate! Worn by fashionistas world wide…its one of the shoes of the season.
NUMBER NINE: POM POM FOOTWEAR
Move over cheerleaders…Pom Poms are very much in trend this season! What started off as a bag accessory quickly revolutionized into the next best thing since sliced bread in the shoe world. Taking on various shapes and sizes, pom pom shoes have caused both a controversy (with Dolce and Gabanna labelling their gladiators “Slave Sandals”) and a bit of a phenomenon.
NUMBER TEN: FRINGE
We’ll tell you what it is about fringe that comes so…high fashion-esque. It somehow manages to tread the fine line between glam and rock-star edge. And it also of-course puts some shake in your step.
