According to Creative Director, Temitayo Eyitayo, the fashion brand 24 was created as a result of him deciding it was time that Nigerians had their own casualwear brand rather than constantly relying on the Ralph Lauren’s & Nike’s of the world.
It was named 24 as it describes the very essence of what the brand is about, namely, allowing the person wearing it to easily fit into society at any time of day. Since it’s 2012 launch , the 24 range has impressively grown to not only the snapbacks that we’re all familiar with, but also includes polo shits, t-shirts, sweat pants and dresses.
Discussing the launch and subsequent history, Temitayo states that his initial fear was acceptance of his brand. However he is now boldly able to call not only students, but also executives and celebrities amongst his clientele. Not bad for somebody who had always had an interest in fashion, but didn’t know exactly what he would do!
On discussing one of the biggest challenges his had with his brand, like many brands in similar situations, Temitayo says that the current economic situation has had a huge impact on his business. Producing his pieces in the Far East has meant that production costs have increased. They have passed some of the additional costs onto the customer, however, much of it is being absorbed by the brand as he feels prices have been increased to the maximum point the market can accept the goods at. So, for now at least, we can continue to rock 24 proudly, and, more importantly, without breaking the bank!
